Gray No. 22

Video 4.20 min
2013

This video depicts a landscape with mirrored elements that is inspired by the repetition of forms in nature.

Gray No. 22 features a landscape that defies gravity, and movement. In it, birds fly sideways, skies are gray and patterns are constantly changing. Gray No. 22 is shot in black and white and processed to be seen as a negative. The representation of the natural world as negatives is something that I have been working on since 2011 as part of a photography series titled Formed. This process allows me to invert the hierarchy of perception, therefore creating a unique experience for the spectator. Before the spectator sees the images of trees and birds, or perceives the depth of field in the landscape, he or she will observe the effects created by light on the surfaces. Gray No. 22 turns light into darkness and darkness into light.
